Gene's Auto glass, Inc. established in 1974 in Indian River County, is owned and operated by the Marckel Family and is the longest running "Glass Company" in Vero Beach. Second generation glass mechanic Dan Marckel has 26 years experience in the glass trade. Gene Marckel is still around to pick up the pieces, and Dan's wife Lisa holds down the office.

WHAT DO WE DO:

AUTO GLASS: We replace glass in anything that has wheels from MG's to140 ton Cranes and everything in between. Replacement Auto Glass Windshields; Door Glass, Back Glass, you name it. If we can't get it we will make it!!

HOUSE GLASS: Yes we do small do it yourself jobs. We do Table Tops, Mirrors, House glass, different colors, Gray, Bronze, Green most in stock. Single Strength 36 X 60 inches, 1/8 clear, 48 X 84 and ¼ inch clear.

PICTURE FRAME GLASS: Usually same day work or next day.

MOTOR HOME GLASS:
Most Glass is Tempered except windshields. We can get windshields but in most cases Owner calls Motor Home Ins. Co, The Insurance Companies have there own suppliers for glass. They send glass to us and we install it. Example is Duncan Systems.

INSURANCE JOBS:
Absolutely, we try to be on every one's preferred list. Which means that we abide by their allowable discounts on replacement glass. Usually all the customer has to do is make one phone call to his or her Insurance Agent and that's it. The Insurance Company's are fair as to rotating glass shops for their insured unless the insured requests a certain shop. We would appreciate it if you would keep your work local. Vero Beach is our home and we like serving our community to the best of our ability.

DELIVERY AVAILABILITY:
Most Auto glass windows we get same day or over night. Call before 10 A.M. M-F and we can have the glass by 4: P.M. same day in almost all cases.

MOBILE UNIT:
We can come to you, NO PROBLEM. We Will go anywhere in Indian river County, and we have. From Blue Cypress Lake to John's Island, from Fellsmere to IRC Landfill. We go anywhere.

INVENTORY:
We have over 200 parts in stock. If you know the NAGS number you can look for it.

Motor Homes, Conversion Van Glass, Hehr, Creation, Mark III, and Westover to name a few. We can get all of these in just a few days. On the Newer Conversion Vans most of the windows are re-glazeable! We can get one piece or the whole unit.

Safety Glass: ¼ Laminated, comes in 4 different colors.
Most vehicle windshields and left and right front doors are standard green tint.

Clear Laminated: This is not used much more. Some of the Antique Cars still use it and boats use it also.

Gray: Gray is seen more and more on Heavy Equipment and machines that are out in the sun all day. It is better for the operators eyes and skin. Dan knows first hand about skin Cancer, the bad kind.

Bronze: Bronze is the final color we have in stock. It is used in Heavy Equipment and some of the Street Rods.

Other Colors: Other Colors of Laminated Glass are available but have to be SPECIAL ORDERED.

Tempered Glass: 99% of all Passenger Cars, Vans, and Buses use Tempered Glass, except for the Windshields. This means the glass has been made to fit a certain pattern. Examples are Door Glasses, Sliding Glass Doors in houses, and Auto Windows. It is then heat treated "Tempered", so that when it breaks it breaks in millions of pieces the size of a finger nail. It is also called Safety Glass because you can't get seriously cut from this type of Glass. Once it is "Tempered" you can't cut it to fit something else. Most Tempered Glass has to be Special Ordered.

GENE'S AUTO GLASS HISTORY

Gene and Sally Marckel opened for business in Vero Beach in 1974. Gene and Sally moved from Bedford Township in Michigan with their son Dan and their two daughters. Gene has worked with Auto Glass since he was 15, working at Walts Auto Glass in downtown Toledo, where he grew up with 11 younger brothers and sisters, for approximately 25 years.

Gene taught his son Dan everything he knew about Auto Glass. In 1978 Dan graduated from Vero Beach High School and started working full tome with Mon and Dad. In 1984 Dan married his wife Lisa and they now have two Son's. Unfortunately, in 1990, Sally Marckel lost her battle with Cancer leaving a business gap that has now been filled by Lisa. Dan acquired the business in 1992 while in the process of building the new building that now houses Gene's Auto Glass where we are still taking care of the residents of Indian River County, now, and in the future.

Gene, "took off his uniform and retired", although you will still find him around the shop most days.
